I haven't heard the Protomen remixes, but I'm familiar with the concept. The Final Fire is MAVS's sequel, more straight chiptunes than the hybrid of s/t, and beginning to tilt an ear toward soundtrack music over stomping dance beats, best portrayed in "The First Incident", which uses the arpeggiated synths to establish a wondrous, ominous atmosphere. You'll still get your beats, though, in the intensely dark "Nightfall", the VHS-bending "Omega Sequence One", and the bitfunk "Mechanical Man".
